Activities description
Abingdon Carbon-Cutters is a “Community Action Group” formed to help reduce the carbon footprint of Abingdon in response to climate change, and to promote a sustainable and resilient lifestyle for our town as fossil fuel stocks decline.
ACC is a Community Action Group. We work to reduce the carbon footprint of the town in response to climate change and to prepare for the challenge of ‘peak oil’. We work in schools to promote food growing and cooking; some of our members have set up the Abingdon Hydro scheme to generate renewable electricity from the River Thames at Abingdon weir. We work with the local councils to promote local trade and to reduce waste, and we hire out an apple-pressing kit to prevent food waste. We are working towards "Transition Town" status for Abingdon. We ran an Eco Fair in 2010 and another is planned for September 2013.
